Sleeve Gastrectomy
Sleeve Gastrectomy is a restrictive weight loss procedure that involves the stapling and cutting of 3/4 of the stomach vertically. This leaves the patient with a smaller, sausage shaped stomach. This means that the patient requires smaller amounts of food to feel full. This surgery is done laparoscopically through 3-4 small incisions. It is a non-reversible procedure and relies on restriction as oppaosed to malabsorption as a tool for weight loss which minimizes nutrition concerns. It results in excellent weight loss and patients may experience the loss of up to 77% of their excess weight in 3 years.
